Centers for street children

During the last few years, we have found enough funds to construct many buildings and develop numerous manual workshops. Every child visiting our centres - day centres or orphanages - is partially or totally separated from his/her family. Without our help, the future for some of these children would be seriously compromised. Many of them would fall into delinquency and violence.

Several centres have been constructed in the States of Maranhão, Piauí, and Bahia.

These centres are all directed by Brazilian volunteers who spend most of their time finding ways to feed and clothe the children; thus, they do not have the time and means to acquire educational supplies.

It is in this sector that we support them the best we can, for we know that manual work, as well as cultural and sporting activities, are indispensable for the self-fulfilment of a child.

We have been able to create many workshops in these centres including: sewing, silk-screen printing, painting, modelling, wood sculpting, and many others.

To this day Nordesta has built 3 new centres in the states of Bahia and Maranhão, and provides support in 3 other centers of Alagoas (Cajueiro and Palmeiras dos Indios) and Maranhão.
