Joinery and woodcarving workshops
Our joinery and woodcarving workshops teach young adults how to use tools and machines, as well as learning artistic or industrial manufacturing technique.
For those who lack a proper education, this apprenticeship offers the opportunity to start a new career. For others, the time spent in workshops completes their previous studies.
The career training for young adults is one of Nordesta’s main objectives.
In these workshops, perhaps more than in others, young people learn about self-discipline, rigor, and respect for the authority and knowledge of experienced adults.
Also, the dangerous tools and machines used in woodworking require lots of precision, patience, and concentration.
The students who choose to become woodcarvers strengthen the already prosperous craft industry in touristic areas of Brazil.
Others, more interested in carpentry, use their ability to make furniture and thus develop a new local economy by selling off their production in local markets.
These career prospects encourage young adults to stay in the regions where they come from, which in turn helps to diminish the rural exodus towards the great metropolises in Southern Brazil.
